Advantages of exploring Kink & BDSM

By Sir Dominic – BDSM Dominant Sydney

The most obvious advantages of exploring kink, fetishes and BDSM that came to mind when writing this blog post is that its fun and feels good! It keeps boredom, monotony and complacency out of the bedroom – especially when it comes to long-term relationships. All too often we her of stories where relationships have ended due to a lack-lustre sex life as there wasn’t much in the way of any activities that deepened and strengthened the bond between partners or lovers.

As we pointed out in my first blog post where I dispelled the myths of BDSM & Kink, studies have shown that active kinky individuals were found to be less neurotic, more open, more aware of and sensitive to rejection, more secure in their relationships and have better overall well-being – all great reasons to explore these activities and role-playing.

BDSM gives you a better sense of perspective – about power, about sensation, about the limits and breadth of the body, mind and emotions and ultimately you learn the difference between power and force. BDSM allows us to access the dark side of our personalities, validates the more aggressive, confrontational, unsocialised, kinky side that has a place as important as any other aspect of ourselves – so it doesn’t leak out in unconscious, unhealthy and unproductive ways.

Relationships are all about communication – verbal, non-verbal and physical and the active exploration of BDSM teaches us better negotiation and communication skills. It teaches us how to articulate and pursue our desires while allowing us to learn our limits, boundaries and trust – relationships are essentially empty without trust and these activities constantly re-inforce trust between the participants. All of this leads to far greater levels of intimacy with our lover(s) or partner(s).

BDSM allows us to give up or stop that constant inner monologue, that self-monitoring, and gives us a “vacation” from the self. It allows us to set aside certain parts of the self and develop other parts.
